HPUMC offers four different adult Sunday school classes on Sunday morning during the 9:30 a.m. education hour. Each class has a different focus and all of them extend an invitation for you to join at anytime. Below is some information about each class.
New Testament Class
This class, as indicated by its name, focuses their studies on the New Testament. They use the quarterly, "Adult Bible Studies" based on the Uniform Series. They meet in the classroom across from the church office. Jean Key or Roseann Marshall can be contacted with questions.
The Bible Class goes through each book of the Bible starting with Genesis about three chapters at a time. Sam Powers is the contact person for the class. A special treat occurs on the Sunday before Christmas when Johna Williams provides cookies and tells heart-warming Christmas stories. This class meets in the room just to the east of the church office.
This class is taught by Pastor Jim Jones. The word “Berean” comes from Acts 17:11 when Paul and Silas preached at Berea where the inhabitants “eagerly examined the scriptures every day.” The Bereans meet in the room just to the north of the pastor’s office. They select a book of the Bible and go through it verse by verse. Right now they are studying Romans. This class dismisses about 10:10 a.m. for choir members to rehearse, making it a great class to attend if you also sing in the choir.
The Forum Class meets in the classroom just off of the sanctuary on the far south side. They do not have a designated “teacher.” Instead, they each take a turn teaching a lesson. This class does several different book studies each year. Contact Earl Mitchell or Jim Key for more information.
From time to time, we also offer special combined classes (during Lent or Advent) as well as special lectures during the summer.
